OzHarvest’s never-ending recipes to #EndFoodWaste on TikTok

Food TikToks are so popular, users will go shopping for ingredients just to try a recipe they've seen. While it encourages people to try new things, it also leaves them with a lot of unfamiliar leftovers they’ll likely waste. What do I do with a 3/4 full tub of gochujang and half a daikon radish?

  • With over 8 million Australians using the app, TikTok has become the place for food and recipe content. There's no better space to spark conversation OzHarvest's mission of halving AU food waste by 2030.

  • Viral recipes are a great way to inspire people to try new meals and ingredients.

But when the ingredients are not part of our usual recipe repertoire, they often end up going to waste.

How often are these TikTok recipes actually contributing to the food waste problem?

  • To help people find ways to use up their ingredients, we'll encourage Foodtokkers to disclose their leftovers at the end of their recipes. Users can then stitch up a response by making a recipe that utilizes those exact leftovers along with other ingredients.

The leftovers from their response will then be used in the next person, creating a never-ending chain of FoodToks that use up past leftovers.
